KanjiSteps uses your browser to process practice text and save optional learning progress. This page explains local storage, sharing, hosting, advertising, and optional donations.
Sentences, readings, and voice
Your sentence is processed on this device. Automatic readings use a local dictionary, and voice audio is generated locally with OpenJTalk. Voice first use downloads about 25 MB from this website and caches engine data using browser storage when available. Audio recordings stay in memory.
Your notebook
Saved sentences, starred characters, days you marked as practiced, and challenge scores are kept in this browser’s local storage. Opening a sentence does not automatically save it. Clearing browser data can remove your notebook. Use Download backup to keep a copy, and Import backup to merge a previous copy. The file contains the text you saved.
Practice links and worksheets
When you choose Share practice, the link includes your sentence and voice speed in its URL fragment. Anyone you give that link to can read the text. Fragments are not included in ordinary page requests to the hosting server, but can remain in browser history. Worksheet links also carry any available readings. Printed sheets contain the sentence and a QR code for the practice link.
External links and donations
PayPal buttons open PayPal with the donation amount and recipient. Enter payment information only on the provider’s page. All donations are optional and unlock no features. Wallet tools share the recipient, network, token, and amount with your chosen wallet when you use them. Connecting a wallet exposes its selected public address to this page. Cryptocurrency transactions are public and generally irreversible.
External educational resources have their own privacy policies. Merely reading a guide does not load those sites.
Preply affiliate advertisement
The Preply banner is an image hosted by KanjiSteps. Viewing it does not load a Preply or Impact script, tracking pixel, or external image. If you click it, Impact redirects you to Preply using affiliate and placement identifiers so an eligible purchase can be attributed to KanjiSteps. Impact and Preply may process your visit under their own privacy policies. Your practice sentence and notebook are not included in this link.
Hosting
Cloudflare serves this website and may process technical information such as your IP address and requests to deliver and protect the service. Read Cloudflare’s privacy policy for details.
Advertising and privacy choices
KanjiSteps uses Google AdSense to support free access. Ads can appear after Google approves the site. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, local storage, device identifiers, IP addresses, page information and interactions with ads to provide, personalize and measure advertising and prevent fraud. Advertising cookies may support personalization based on visits to this and other websites.
For visitors in the EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google’s consent message provides Consent, Do not consent and Manage options choices. You can revisit those choices using the Privacy and cookie settings link when available. Declining optional consent does not remove access to practice; limited ads may still be shown where allowed. Blocking advertising scripts does not prevent practice.
Read how Google uses information from partner sites and Google’s privacy policy. You can also manage personalized advertising in My Ad Center. The hosting provider also supplies Cloudflare Web Analytics, which collects technical page-performance and usage information.
Practice text stays in the browser for stroke and furigana processing. Advertising scripts operate on the page and may process page information; avoid entering sensitive personal information into a public web tool.
